Goodbye Agriculture, Hello GM Burgers

Agriculture is how we feed people, its the act of growing food, it’s kinda important. Well, actually I say it isn’t that important. People in America have been working on creating lab-made meat. They’ve actually been able to make chicken and beef. They use a skin cell of a cow and inject stem cells into it, the stem cells change to meat cells and voila, you got a patty. One thing they are still working on is texture, as now it is at a more fluffy consistency

Urbanization

Urbanization is the act of rural areas going urban. I think this is a good thing to an extent. First, we need fresh produce and yummy vegetables to live healthy lives so we still need some rural areas. Plus nature is pretty beautiful so if cities were everywhere then there wouldn’t be as much nature which would be kinda sad. Cities are cool though, don’t get me wrong, they hold hella people and each city gives off its own vibe. Like Seattle gives off a fruity vibe. A country full of just urbanized areas would, now that I think about it, look pretty cool, like come dystopian post-apocalyptic world. Idk. What do you think? Is Urbanization good or bad? I say I’m just along for the ride.

Niches

A niche is the ecological role a species plays in its environment, along with the resources it requires, the conditions that favor it, the interactions it provides and the products it provides. A fundamental niche includes the ideal conditions for a species while the conditions in which a species actually lives is their realized niche.

So my niche is that Bring joy to the world, I require food and shelter to survive, I can survive any condition but prefer a sunny day, I talk to people and produce joy. My fundamental niche would be my whole house while my realized.

How Matt Damon Made a System in The Martian

The soil of Mars in “The Martian” is more dirt than soil with no nutrients to help sustain plant life. Matt uses dried human feces and mixes it with water to use as a fertilizer. He plants potatoes in the fertilized dirt inside his space shelter, which helps keep the atmosphere stable. All this is possible because Matt plays a botanist in the movie.

Very cool movie showing that nothing’s impossible

The Loss of Biodiversity

Loss of biodiversity is when and area’s biodiversity (variety of species) has only a fraction of the species that used to be alive. This is the cause of hunting animals till extinction or human-caused habitat destruction or climate change. Some famous animals that have gone extinct due to humans include the Dodo bird, the Passenger Pigeon, the Western Black Rhinoceros, the Tasmanian Tiger and many many others. It is averaged that every million years 1000 animals go extinct to either humans or climate change. Some animals hit hard by climate change include Polar Bears and Adélie Penguins, animals that thrive in the cold. We need to raise awareness of this loss of biodiversity and new, stricter laws need to be made.

Fracking and It’s Potential Impact

Fracking, or Hydraulic fracturing. is a new on-the-rise method of retrieving natural gas from the earth. Fracking is when a shaft is drilled 100s of meters down into the earth, but at the bottom, a horizontal shaft is made where fracking fluid is injected into the ground. This fluid, pumped into the ground with the help of a high-performance pump, averages at 8 million gallons of water, several tons of sand, and around two-hundred thousand liters of 700 different chemicals, which help extract and soak up the gas. The chemicals include Benzene, Formic Acid, methanol, and many others. The fluid is able to contaminate a water source where it is impossible to be treated. This deadly new pandemic is obviously a huge threat to our water sources and land and needs to get more attention.
